Order restored in France

A KYLIAN Mbappe hat trick allowed Paris Saint-Germain to go back top of Ligue 1 on Sunday night.

Victory over Lyon had the feel of a potentially decisive moment in the title race. For all that that 'race' has been more like a procession in recent years as PSG reeled off domestic title after domestic title, this time France has provided one of the most exciting races across Europe so far this season.

Lyon and Lille have made a solid case for themselves to be able to wrest the crown from Mauricio Pochettino's side. But maybe, the PSG juggernaut will find that extra gear or two yet again.

For all involved at the Parc des Princes, domestic pots are almost taken as a given, a right. For them, the real barometer is chasing that still elusive Champions League crown which they came so close to landing last season.

However make no mistake about it, failing to land domestic honours, especially the title, could see what many thought to be a shrewd post-Tottenham move to the French capital for Pochettino turn sour very quickly. It is hard to see that PSG will not have the armoury to see off their much weaker domestic challengers, but they must not take their eyes off the prize at their own back door, chasing the ultimate glory of the Champions League.
